Battlefront’s Death Star DLC: Everything we know – part III

This is part three of three part series summarizing what we know about next month’s Death Star expansion that’s coming to Battlefront. Read part one here, and part two here.

“Here they come!”

The Death Star update next month will be bringing new weapons, Star Cards, vehicles and features to Battlefront. These topics are what we know least about in this DLC pack, but here’s what we’ve managed to gather so far:

Weapons

Chewbacca with his bowcaster.

We don’t know what weapons and Star Cards will be included in the Death Star DLC. However, weapons designer Christian Johannesen wrote in a Tweet that they feel “great!”

If this expansion follows the same pattern as the Outer Rim and Bespin, we’ll get two blasters and three Star Cards.

We do know a bit more about Chewbacca and Bossk’s weapons, however, thanks to a some info from Star Wars Insider that was revealed Tuesday.

Chewbacca’s bowcaster will have several features:

  • It shoots more bolts for every enemy he defeats
  • The Wookie has a “specific move” that can double the number of bolts shot

Bossk on the planet Vanqor.

For Bossk, we also learned a couple of things:

  • His blaster (likely the Relby-v10) has an infrared sight
  • The Trandoshan will utilize a dioxis grenade

While not weapons, we learned that Chewbacca will have a roar ability that can make “people frightened and disoriented” while Bossk will regenerate health with each kill.

Vehicles

Darth Vader's TIE Advanced.

As far as we know, the Death Star won’t include new vehicles like Bespin’s cloud car. However, we will have two new hero ships.

First up is Luke’s X-Wing. Details are scarce regarding how it differs from the generic ship already in Battlefront, but the presence of R2-D2 will add repairability to Luke’s X-Wing.

The pack will also include Darth Vader’s TIE Advanced, which is an entirely new ship. Dennis Brannvall revealed last week at gamescom that the ship is a “hybrid of the TIE Fighter and TIE Advanced” and will feature a laser-barrage ability.

In the Star Wars Insider piece, Brannvall also mentioned that Vader will be able to boost nearby TIE Fighter’s damage output. However, changes have been made since Brannvall gave the interview; BattlefrontUpdates confirmed in a video yesterday that proximity to Vader’s ship does not affect the TIE Fighter’s damage dealing abilities.

Features & Changes

A TIE Fighter in Battlefront.

The update that ships alongside the Death Star DLC in September will also be bringing new features and changes to the game. It is likely that many of these features are free:

  • More Imperial customizations
  • A revamped customization system, which potentially will allow for swapping heads and bodies
  • A revamped trait system
  • Fighters will now have a set time to lock onto enemy ships before going into a cooldown
  • The A-Wing will now have speed boost instead of a shield
  • TIE Fighter speed boost speed will be increased and its cooldown time will be decreased
  • The TIE Interceptor will lose its ion missile and gain a laser barrage, which will be effective against shields

Note: unless otherwise linked, the changes noted above come from this BattlefrontUpdates video.

Additionally, Luke and Han will don their stormtrooper outfits for the Death Star expansion, while Leia will rock her white dress and buns.

There have also been some confirmed changes without a given date (but it’s possible they’ll arrive alongside the Death Star):
