Mystery shrouds Hero Blast.

However, we now know a bit more about the mode, which EA/DICE has yet to officially announce, thanks to Uninspired Zebra. The data miner who previously found Hero Blast in game files recently shared a few more details on the mode.

Edit: I note this further down as well, but keep in mind that because Hero Blast isn’t officially announced, the following details may change.

First, you’ll play as the same hero for the duration of the match.

“Before the game starts, each player is randomly assigned a hero to play as. It works like how Heroes Vs Villains used to work: you get the ‘You will play as …’ message instead of being able to select yourself,” Uninspired Zebra wrote on Reddit. “Once assigned a hero, you’ll play as that hero for the duration of the game. When you die, you’ll respawn as that same hero.”

While this does solve the problem of a single player quickly grabbing the same hero every time, it will unfortunately cause players to be stuck with a hero they might not fare well with. However, this could actually be a benefit as players will need to work outside their comfort zone. This will hopefully make them a more well-rounded player.

One redditor also surmised that this means the hero bodyguards for Leia and Palpatine will be entirely absent. As Hero Blast doesn’t seem to contain regular infantry, this is probably a solid guess.

Second, “it’s pretty much a regular game of Blast”. However, it will have a kill limit of 50 instead of 100. No word yet on length, but I’d guess it’ll keep the standard 10-minute time frame.

Next, all maps that feature regular Blast support Hero Blast. As Uninspired Zebra notes, this includes the Carbonite Freezing Chamber on Cloud City, which is really cool. Currently, including DLCs, a grand total of 20 22 maps support Blast (if my math serves me well). Here’s a list of maps and modes I drew up awhile back (though I’ve been lazy and haven’t updated it since the Death Star came out). Edit: My math served me wrong. Going back and looking, I forgot to tally a couple of Bespin maps in my total, so the actual count is 22. I’m currently working on updating that list of maps and modes.

Finally, the DLC license for the mode is listed as “seasonpass”.

Uninspired Zebra wrote: “So unfortunately it looks like people who individually bought the DLCs might be out of luck (I can’t 100% confirm this since there’s nothing to say behind the scenes it counts owning each DLC as being equivalent to having the season pass, but the phrasing suggests otherwise).”

Personally, I hope this is just wonky-wording in the game’s code. Opening up the mode to those who also purchased all the DLCs individually will a) increase the potential playerbase and b) not upset those who purchased the DLCs individually.

Regardless, it’s neat to get at least a little more info on this mysterious mode. Also note that things might change between now and release, especially because EA/DICE hasn’t officially unveiled Hero Blast. Fingers crossed for an official announcement in the near future!
