Traits coming to vanilla heroes in Battlefront!
Get ready for traitless heroes to be a thing of the past once Battlefront’s Rogue One update arrives next week.
This revelation came earlier today from hero designer Guillaume Mroz, who tweeted out the news:
Teaching some French : secret de polichinelle. Means a secret that everyone knows about… like that Vanilla heroes are getting traits
— Guillaume Mroz (@guillaume_mroz) November 29, 2016
Perhaps the most impressive bit about this much-anticipated feature is that Mroz worked on traits for vanilla heroes during his spare time over weekends. Definitely amazing to see that kind of dedication!
As a refresher, the heroes currently lacking traits are: Luke, Han, Leia, Darth Vader, Palpatine and Boba Fett. I’ve seen numerous ideas from the community on how to apply traits to these heroes, so I’ll be curious to find out which direction Mroz took.
Traits for heroes were introduced in the Outer Rim expansion with Nien Nunb and Greedo. All DLC heroes since then have had their own specific traits. With today’s news, the base game heroes will join those DLC heroes on December 6 when Rogue One: Scarif lands.
Mroz also discussed whether or not upcoming heroes Jyn Erso and Director Krennic will be getting bodyguards:
@owen_yard not both…

This kind of wording seems to imply that Jyn won’t be getting them, while Krennic’s death troopers will appear in-game as his bodyguards. However, it’s also possible to infer that neither will get them. Hopefully we’ll know by tomorrow!
Mroz then revealed that Jyn’s mysterious baton (shown above) is called a truncheon. He went on to hint that it “might be a small part of her gameplay”, but didn’t go into specifics. Personally, I think Jyn will have a special ability to use the truncheon (like Dengar’s Hurricane Strke), although I suppose it might be tied to her standard melee attack.
Mroz also claimed that the Rogue One update should provide balance to the hero lineup:
@kc_brovlawski @HesselPaans the next dlc and patch should even out heroes.

These new tidbits of information come after Mroz and a couple of other devs were active on Twitter earlier today. Definitely cool that traits are coming to base game heroes! Which hero are you most excited to see get a trait?
