Trailer breakdown for Battlefront’s Rogue One: Scarif DLC

The Shield Gate above Scarif.

The full trailer for Battlefront’s Rogue One: Scarif contains a bevy of clues and hints for what we can expect of the expansion.

I figured it would be fun to take a deeper look at the trailer with some analysis and screenshots. Hopefully this will help pass the time until Season Pass holders can play the DLC next Tuesday, December 6! To keep things short, I’ll only post some new stuff I’ve found.

If you haven’t watched the trailer yet, head on over here before continuing on. It might also be helpful to check out some of the higher-quality images and videos from the expansion’s promo page.

Alright, let’s get to business!

The TIE Striker pick-up seems to function like when you activate a hero or flyable ship pick-up. I’m not really sure how aiming might work; I initially figured it might function like an Orbital Strike, but this might not be the case:

There a two Rebel customizations shown in the trailer: a brand new outfit and then an outfit with a new cap, but the Tatooine body. It’s possible that the trailer was shot prior to the brand new outfit being fully complete. Other possible theories include that the different outfits may be map-specific on Scarif, or that one of them is now an unlockable skin:

The new mode, Infiltration, might work as follows (note the heavy emphasis on “might”; I could definitely be wrong):

  • Stage 1: Space battle amongst wreckage and Star Destroyers above Scarif. Rebels must defeat the Imperials to allow the U-Wing to pass through the Shield Gate.
  • Stage 2: U-Wing drops Rebels off on either the Scarif Jungle or Scarif Beach map (a random map is chosen like Battle Station’s second stage). The Rebels then must battle their way past a group of Walkers to get to Landing Pad 13. An Imperial Shuttle must also be destroyed.
  • Stage 3: Always Landing Pad 13. Once here, the Rebels must then steal the Death Star plans.

Only one version of the shoretrooper is shown throughout the trailer—one with a red right-arm. This could indicate that the other varieties of shoretroopers won’t be seen in Battlefront:

Shoretroopers are heavily featured in this trailer. However, you can see normal stormtroopers in various shots. I’m not sure it means anything (i.e., if stormtroopers are the default Scarif skin), but it is intriguing. Of course, note that normal stormtroopers were also present in the Outer Rim trailer, so things could change:

Jyn’s baton (or truncheon) is an ability with limited use. From the footage, it can be used nine times. We don’t know for sure what her other abilities or trait may be just yet. However, it appears that one ability may involve the Sonic Imploder:

Jyn also has a normal melee in addition to that baton ability:

We also get a close-up of her A180 in either blaster rifle mode or sniper rifle mode (note that this isn’t a new blaster; the grip is clearly the A180):

Director Orson Krennic probably gets death troopers as bodyguards. They look like they carry a DLT-19:

Krennic has shield ability that might pertain to his trait. He also has something that relates to an R2 unit and another ability that looks like it could be called “Imperial Resources” (it appears to be a set of cards with the Imperial symbol):

This is a neat shot with a lot in it. First, the player is utilizing the gunner position on the U-Wing. Like the AT-AT, it’ll probably be on rails (which is referenced on the promo page). Next, it appears that this might be a top-down view of the Landing 13 map. Finally, the blue circle on the far left may just be the Sonic Imploder in action (shoutout to Owen Yard on Twitter for noticing the Sonic Imploder):

I saw a few stormtroopers there. They don’t seem to be wearing pauldrons either. About the point talking about how the normal Stormtroopers, that was just animated out of game, and I believe the shot from the Stormtrooper is in game, although I may be wrong.
