Looks like Baze Malbus was planned for Disney Infinity (Updated)
A recent image has surfaced online indicating that the Rouge One hero Baze Malbus was planned for the now-shuttered Disney Infinity.
The image of Baze’s figurine, which is shown below, was posted on B Allen’s ArtStation page. From what I’ve been able to dig up, Allen worked on the game as a Senior Character Artist.
Disney halted development on Infinity in May 2016. The sandbox-style game allowed players to synchronize real-world figurines with the game. Infinity 3.0, which released in 2015, was the first game in the series to include Star Wars characters.
Since the game’s end, several unreleased Star Wars figurines have leaked. These leaks include Hera from the TV show Rebels and a premium Darth Vader figurine.
I am unable verify with 100-percent accuracy that the Baze leak is indeed true. However, considering Allen’s previous work on Darth Vader, Captain Rex and Sabine Wren, I have a hunch that Baze definitely was planned for Infinity. The model is also very high in quality and meshes perfectly with already-released Infinity figurines. Regardless, Baze sure looks cool:
Seeing Baze’s model also peaks the imagination. What other Rogue One character’s were planned for Infinity? I know I would’ve loved for K-2SO to make it into the game! And, of course, having Chirrut alongside Baze is a must!
While leaks like this are a painful reminder of what might’ve been, I wouldn’t mind seeing more Rogue One characters leak in the future. I also love the art style Infinity presented. More Rogue One figurines might give a fresh take on characters we already know from the movie.

Update: Disney animator Thomas Estrada later shared a prototype model of Baze:

Stuff like this is pretty depressing. Disney Infinity still had so much potential. If they needed to cancel it, I wish they would have let 3.0 run its course first. It seems wasteful when we keep seeing all of these things that they already had in the works at the time of its cancellation.
