A peak at some cancelled Battlefront III concept art & character models
Free Radical’s cancelled Battlefront III sure featured some cool concepts.
Since the game’s cancellation, various pieces of its production have leaked to the public. These leaks range from gameplay footage to work-in-progress images. And, of course, a prototype build surfaced on Reddit almost exactly one year ago.
What I’ve embedded below isn’t really new—I was able to dig up some of the images on old forum postings—but they’ve been making the rounds on various places recently and I figured they were interesting enough to share.
Some images, like Lando’s character model or the some pre-match screens, I hadn’t actually seen before. Han’s model also doesn’t quite match up with earlier versions I’ve seen before which is interesting to see.
Few notes on the images below:
- Galactic Conquest looks like it was meant to be included. I definitely missed its presence in EA’s Battlefront as it was always enjoyable to play on the original Battlefronts.
- The class select screen is fun to look at. While it does feature placeholder art, it’s worth noting that Zam Wesell, Jango Fett, Padme, Count Dooku and what might be the Wookiee Tarfful can be spotted.
- Bossk’s ship, The Hounds Tooth, can also be seen. Bossk, of course, eventually made into a Battlefront game as part of last year’s Death Star DLC.
- Interestingly, the dev that originally leaked the class select screen called the list of classes “dynamic”.
- In my digging, I also came across this animation demo reel. It includes animations for Super Battle Droids, an AT-AT, an AT-ST and General Grievous. I’m particularly a fan of the Grievous animation.
