Lucasfilm trademarks “Star Wars: Rivals”; could it be the name of a game?
The title “Star Wars: Rivals” recently received a trademark filing from the folks at Lucasfilm.
This trademark was first picked up by Max Palas of The Star Wars Post:

Palas also took notice of the trademark’s description, which reads:
Apparatus for recording, transmission or reproduction of sound or images; audio books; audio recordings; audio and visual recordings; video game software; computer programs and software; downloadable electronic publications; downloadable game software; downloadable mobile applications; consumer electronics and accessories therefor; eyeglasses and sunglasses and accessories therefor; binoculars; decorative magnets; graduated rulers; microphones; helmets; flotation vests; protective face masks not for medical purposes; snorkels; swimming goggles; swim masks.
As you can tell, that’s a rather ambiguous description. It could be anything from a new video game to a new TV show to a Star Wars-branded flotation vest. All told, we don’t really know anything specific about this trademark.
Putting on the speculation cap, I personally think it might pertain to an upcoming mobile game. Going further into the speculation realm, it might be this first-person game Cinelinx’ editor-in-chief Jordan Maison tweeted about last October:
Huh…. Disney is working on a "new #StarWars first-person mobile game". Wonder what it could be.

Maison has previously reported that the Battlefront season pass would include Rogue One content and has also covered the rumored Knights of the Old Republic remake, so this rumor of a first-person mobile game is certainly plausible.
However, making the leap that “Star Wars: Rivals” is a first-person mobile game is quite heavy speculation, and I wouldn’t stake anything on it just yet. Considering that the description of the trademark is very broad, we really don’t know anything just yet (although it really seems to fit a mobile game title). Perhaps we will get that Star Wars flotation vest we’ve all been pining after!
I’ll note that there are rumors that the current Star Wars TV show Rebels will be closing up shop soon. As such, a new animated show could jump into fill that void. However, Rivals sounds awfully close to Rebels, so I can’t see Lucasfilm crafting a replacement show with that name.
