Apparently General Veers was conceptualized for Battlefront

General Veers from Empire Strikes Back.

While he never made into the game, General Maximilian Veers was included in some Battlefront concept art.

The general, who led the Empire’s ground assault on Hoth in Empire Strikes back, was featured in this piece:

This work was recently included in an art dump on Reddit by u/JakeGreen. After some digging, I found out that it was crafted by Anton Grandert, who’s now the lead senior concept artist at EA/DICE.

Grandert noted on ArtStation that this piece was a “[s]tyle study from movie still”. As such, it’s likely that General Veers was never planned as a playable character.

Still, it’s still cool to see him in official concept art. He’s also a character I heard tossed around by the community as a possible Imperial DLC villain before DICE went with their trio of bounty hunters and Director Krennic. While I enjoy most of the DLC heroes, I do think Veers could’ve been an interesting choice and wouldn’t mind seeing his inclusion in a future Battlefront game.

Note that if you are needing your General-Veers-in-a-video-game-fix, he is available in EA’s mobile title, Galaxy of Heroes. He is also voiced in Battlefront II and makes appearances in the real-time strategy games Galactic Battlegrounds and Empire at War.

The art dump by u/JakeGreen included a numerous selection of other cool shots. I especially like this image of a TIE Fighter chasing an X-Wing through a canyon on Tatooine (also by Grandert):

And also this Grandert piece on the battle of Jakku:

There are also some neat non-concept art images, like this shot of Bioniip Laboratories on Bespin (originally shared by DICE environment artist Patrick Gladys):
