The Battlefront II Alpha receives its first mention by EA
Update 2:50 p.m. PT: The forum post in question is no longer available. As such, the post may not have been intended for the public. This could mean the Alpha is still far off. Hopefully we’ll still get more details soon, though!
While EA showed off a pre-alpha build of Battlefront II at EA PLAY two weeks ago, news regarding a more public alpha test remained scarce. However, a recent forum posting confirms that an alpha will indeed be taking place.
The mention of an alpha was first spotted by Elliot from BattlefrontUpdates and can be seen via a bug reporting post for the Alpha (Edit: link no longer live) on the official forums by the game’s community manager Mathew Everett.
Thursday’s post by Everett doesn’t include a start date for the Battlefront II Alpha, but there are a few interesting tidbits. To start, this is the first time anyone at EA has officially mentioned an alpha test (the Beta was announced just before EA PLAY).
Next, it appears the Alpha may include all three platforms Battlefront II supports (PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One). I say “may” because the reporting template requests the user to specify their platform. However, EA’s previous Battlefront Alpha in 2015 was PC-only.
It’s also worth noting that the actual text of the bug reporting post may be a placeholder. It appears to be copy+pasted from the general bug reporting post for the previous Battlefront. As such, I’d reckon it’s far from confirmed that all platforms will be able to access the Alpha.
The post also remains ambiguous as to if the Alpha will be a) closed to the public (i.e., only a select number of users will be allowed in) and b) if users will need to sign an NDA to not share footage, screenshots, etc. While it will likely only be open to a small number of players, hopefully footage, screenshots and other bits from the Alpha can be shared publicly. The post does request users to link “Screenshots or Private video links” of bug reports, however, which gives me the hunch that the Alpha will be kept fairly low-key.
It’s worth noting that the Battlefront Alpha in 2015 was announced on June 26, so hopefully a full-on announcement regarding a Battlefront II Alpha is just around the corner.
Moving on from the Alpha to another one of Everett’s forum posts, he confirmed that stats from EA’s first Battlefront won’t carry over into Battlefront II. However, Everett further stated that “the team is looking at ways to identify who came from Star Wars Battlefront.” While Everett then added that there aren’t any promises just yet, it’ll certainly be interesting to see what in-game rewards for veterans from EA’s first Battlefront might be.
Battlefront II is slated to arrive November 17 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Follow SWGO on Facebook or Twitter for all the latest news.
