Here’s the first footage of Hero Blast in Battlefront thanks to a user-made mod

Hero Blast feature image in Battlefront.

Previously shrouded in mystery, we now have some footage of Hero Blast.

This is all thanks to a mod by Redditor TK-221, who managed to enable the mode in a private match. As a quick refresher, Hero Blast was found in game files by Redditor uninspired_zebra last fall. The mod, which is essentially Blast but with heroes and the Season Pass maps in one playlist, never officially released and appears to have been fully cancelled as of now.

However, this footage is definitely cool and provides a glimpse of what could have been. Here’s the embedded video, and then some of my notes and thoughts below that:

  • As we’ve known before, Hero Blast ends after 10 minutes. It can also end when one team reaches 50 kills.
  • Players are selected in a random order to choose a hero and then spawn as that same hero for the duration of the match.
  • By the look of things, Hero Blast was basically finished. It seems that it would’ve been pretty easy for DICE to enable the mode, but I’m unsure why they didn’t. I could see it being a nice reward for those that stuck around with the Season Pass, as the mode would’ve made use of the Season Pass maps.
  • While this mod is cool, I’m uncertain if player accounts that make use of it will be compromised. Interestingly, only the host of the match needs to have the mod installed.

If you want more impressions of the mode itself, someone who actually played the mode posted an AMA on Reddit. It’s rather enlightening and makes for a fascinating read.
