That business on Cato Neimoidia does count—for this Battlefront II mod at least

Battlefront III: Legacy is an ambitious mod.

I’ve written about the mod for Battlefront II before; most recently after the modders released footage of the Cato Neimoidia map. Legacy is unique from some other mods because it utilizes assets from Free Radical’s cancelled Battlefront III. The Cato Neimoidia map is among those assets gleaned from the cancelled game.

While it’s not fully complete just yet, you can download the beta of the mod through its Moddb page. The beta features a Coruscant map, which Free Radical also planned for Battlefront III. Note, of course, that you’ll need to own a copy of Battlefront II on PC for the mod to work properly.

Most recently, actual gameplay footage of the Cato Neimoidia map has arrived onto YouTube. The YouTube video showcases gameplay between the Imperials and Rebels in a team deathmatch mode. It also runs through all the classes available for both factions—including the Phase III Dark Trooper.

El Fabrico, one of the modders on the project, notes that “one Rebel unit is still missing.” Additionally, “the Imperial units and skins are going to be expanded.” Overall, both factions for the Galactic Civil War “are not far from being finished.”

Eventually the modders aim to craft a campaign alongside map improvements, further tweaking the HUD and custom animations.

In terms of character models, this is the best I’ve seen Battlefront II look. I’ll be keen to find out just where this mod goes; what we’ve seen so far has been pretty great! It’s definitely cool to see people continue to mod Battlefront II, which is over 11 years old at the time of writing.

You can check out Cato Neimoidia in the embedded video. Besides the Imperials vs. the Rebels below, gameplay of a Clone Wars Supremacy match on the map is available over on Moddb.
