More Death Star DLC details emerge for Battlefront

While Wednesday was filled with details about the Death Star DLC, news yesterday was unsurprisingly scarce. Still, a couple of new bits of info have dripped through over night.

In a new video out of gamescom, Robby Thomas of Star Wars HQ revealed that the three-phase Battle Station mode will transition between stages with a cinematic of some sort. Nothing else has been said about the topic, but hopefully the cinematic scenes means there won’t long load times between phases.

Additionally, Elliot of BattlefrontUpdates interviewed the game’s lead designer Dennis Brannvall.

In the video, Brannvall, who has been pushing to bring R2-D2 to Battlefront “for a very long time,” confirmed a few details about the astromech. It’s worth noting that R2-D2 will be fully controllable (and not on rails), can’t jump, he’s slow, and has support abilities such as scan ping and stunning with his shock prod.  Brannvall called the droid “the ultimate support character.”

He also discussed how Battle Station is estimated to be about twice as long as some other modes currently in Battlefront.

“We’re still working on it,” Brannvall said. “But I would expect at least half and hour of gameplay to complete the gamemode.”

Brannvall further talked about general changes, including canon reasons for why the A-Wing is losing its shield, a new laser barrage mechanic coming to the TIE Interceptor and how the TIE Advanced is “very much a hybrid of the TIE Fighter and the TIE Interceptor.”

He also confirmed that Luke’s X-Wing and Vader’s TIE Advanced will both be playable on all Fighter Squadron maps, even those in the base game.

Before the video ended, Brannvall teased changes coming to traits and the customization system.

Finally, Brannvall confirmed via Twitter that changes are coming to the Bacta Bomb. In response to someone asking if the healing Star Card could get an HP cap, Brannvall wrote, “Yes, it’s coming.”

Meanwhile, weapons designer Christian Johannesén tweeted that he is “putting finishing touches on the weapons” for the upcoming DLC.
