EA servers are having difficulties in Battlefront, SWTOR, etc. (Updated)
After some discussion with others, I have chosen to remove the name of the group that purports to causing a DDoS attack on EA’s servers. This is because this group is likely seeking attention for this situation. Parts referencing this group in this post have been updated.
It appears as though EA servers are having issues.
These problems are seemingly plaguing Battlefront, SWTOR and Battlefield One. FIFA and Madden players are also reporting issues.
According to downdetector.com’s outage map, servers run by EA are down around New York City and throughout Europe. The site has also seen a spike in reports regarding EA servers in the past hour or so since this post published (at around noon Pacific Time).
Blizzard underwent a DDoS attack last night as the studio’s Legion update for World of Warcraft went live.
A hacker group has taken responsibility for last night’s EA server outage. However, EA has yet to confirm that it is indeed a DDoS attack (they have only commented that this issue is a server outage), so this group’s claim is currently unverified.
Personally, I just tried launching Battlefront on my PC and wasn’t even able to log into the EA Origin client.
I’ll update this post should we get more information. Hopefully this situation can be resolved soon!
Update 12:42 pm PT: I was able to log into the EA Origin client, but was not able to connect to EA’s servers once in Battlefront. I’m on PC in West Coast, USA.
Update 12:45 pm PT: Just saw this tweet:
EA is currently experiencing an outage. EA games, services & support may be impacted. We’re working to resolve as fast as possible.

Have yet to find any other official information from EA at this point.
Update 1:33 pm PT: Battlefield’s official twitter account has commented on the server woes:

Update 1:35 pm PT: EA Star Wars also tweeted about the issues, but they linked to the above tweet regarding EA Support:
@plassteel We are working to resolve the connectivity issues as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience. https://t.co/M2PUdclXPh

SWTOR’s official account also commented:
We are currently investigating the ongoing connectivity issues with multiple servers. Thank you for your patience!

Update 1:52 pm PT: EA Supports is saying “no ETA just yet” on when servers will go back up:
@Johnnypalom No ETA just yet, but keep checking here for any updates. -Dennis

Update 2:20 pm PT: I was just able to log into the Battlefield 1 servers on my Xbox. However, I was unable to log into EA servers in Battlefront on either my PC or Xbox. Again, I am on West Coast, USA.
Update 2:22 pm PT: It appears that some other people are able to get back onto the Battlefield 1 servers:
@Citizen_6121 Thanks for the update. Please keep checking our channels for the latest announcements.

Update 2:48 pm PT: I just managed to log into both Battlefront and Battlefield 1 servers, so hopefully things are getting better. Unfortunately, the server outage map still has a fair bit of red, especially in Europe:
Update 3:42 pm PT: SWTOR’s community manager Eric Musco posted on the game’s official forum:
From our investigation the issue appears to be primarily affecting East Coast, US servers. Although everything is not completely stable yet, we are beginning to see recovery on those servers.
Of course SWTOR is a different game than the ones I was able to connect to, but this could be why I (on the West Coast) was able to connect to EA servers. Additionally, it’s good to hear that things are improving!
Update 4:33 pm PT: Battlefield’s twitter account says that there are still servers outages:

EA Star Wars also is still saying that they’re “working to resolve the connectivity issues as soon as possible.”
