Lighting work on Battlefront’s Death Star DLC finished! (Updated x3)

The lead lighting artist for Battlefront, Oscar Carlen, just tweeted that his work on the Death Star DLC has been completed.

I think the tweet speaks for itself:

Carlen previously tweeted last Sunday that he was still hard at work on the battle station. He later added that he needed “to bring balance between the light and dark, the pesky hiding shadowtroopers must not win!”

Because lighting work is one of the last bits that goes into development, this means that the Death Star DLC is likely finished, or at the very least, close to being finished. With just over two weeks to go until the speculated release date for Season Pass holders, September 20 is looking more and more likely.

Carlen has previously worked on Twilight on Hoth and Jabba’s Palace, as well as plenty of other maps in the game. He also adjusted the excessive levels of smoke present around Jabba when viewing Hutt Contracts.

Update 12:03 p.m. PT: Carlen added that it’s possible we might get more information on the Death Star expansion this week, but he “honestly” doesn’t know.

For those keeping score at home, the first look at Bespin art and weapons came on June 9, which was 12 days prior to Bespin’s release. If the Death Star does indeed arrive September 20 and EA/DICE follows the same pattern, some sort of info should be inbound this week. However, we do already know way more about the Death Star than we did for Bespin at this point, so it’s really up in the air from my perspective.

Update: 12:29 p.m. PT: I asked Carlen about how the Death Star compared to other DLCs and he replied with, “Everything about it is different from the previous DLCs so it’s not easy to compare. It’s been a lot of fun though.”

Regardless, it’s ultimately good to hear that the Death Star was fun to work on and that it’s near or already reached completion.

Update 12:54 p.m. PT: Carlen has added that he’ll find out soon if the Death Star is ready to go:
