Respawn’s Star Wars game to be “about the character and their experiences”

In a recent Q&A with Glixel, Respawn Entertainment co-founder Vince Zampella gave some clues on the studio’s upcoming Star Wars game.

While much of the interview is about the recently released Titanfall 2, Zampella touched slightly on what he foresees for Respawn’s action-adventure title set in the Star Wars universe.

“I would sacrifice visual fidelity for gameplay experience,” he said about what he wants Respawn to be known for. “It has to feel good. It has to play right. It has to be fun.”

He then went into more details—specifically on the Star Wars game.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s in first person,” Zampella said. “The Star Wars game is a third-person action game. It’s going to be more about the character and their experiences.”

Still, there is a contrast between third-person and first-person games.

“You can see them and identify with them a little differently than you can in a first-person game where it’s all about seeing it through your own eyes,” he said. “But it still has to be about feel and fun.”

EA currently plans for the Star Wars game to arrive sometime after 2018. The publisher has yet to say much about the title besides that it “features a different style of gameplay and takes place in a different timeline we have yet to explore with our EA Star Wars titles.”

Other minor clues have dropped here and there. Zampella also revealed last month that EA almost rejected  the studio’s pitch for the game. Meanwhile, the title’s director, Stig Asmussen wrote in a blog post in May that “developing a game within the ever-expanding Star Wars universe opens up so many paths for us to go down, and an unparalleled playground to design within.”
