Battlefront: Amazon reveals Rogue One: Scarif DLC’s new mode, weapons
Edit: The details below are still relevant, however, more specific details recently arrived.
More details on the Rogue One: Scarif expansion for Battlefront are now available thanks to the pack’s Amazon listing.
The listing’s details were first noticed by Competitorcycle, who posted a video on YouTube earlier today. Note that while the details below are likely true, it’s possible that things might change before release.
Besides noting already confirmed details (like the fact that Jyn Erso and Director Krennic will be the new heroes or that the pack brings four new maps), the Amazon listing reveals the name of the new game mode: Infiltration.
[Minor Rogue One spoilers ahead] Based on that name, and what we know about the Rogue One movie, I’d guess that the new mode will feature the Rebels first needing to destroy the Shield Gate in space above Scarif. Then the Rebels must infiltrate an Imperial installation, steal the Death Star plans and then escape the planet. All told, I wouldn’t be shocked if Infiltration featured one space phase followed by two ground phases.
Next, the listing also revealed the two new weapons: the A180 and DT-29 blasters.
Jyn wields the A180 blaster pistol, which you can see in the key art for Rogue One: Scarif. According to the listing, it will feature three abilities, although it’s unknown what those abilities will be.
The DT-29, meanwhile, has already had a presence in the Star Wars universe. Available as a prototype weapon in The Old Republic, the weapon’s full name is the “DT-29 holdout blaster”. Assuming both DT-29’s are the same, its design can be seen below:
Note that because the DT-29 holdout blaster in SWTOR is categorized under the “Legends” banner of Star Wars canon, it’s quite possible the final design will change in Battlefront. Perhaps it’s the pistol held by Krennic in the image up top?
Unfortunately, no mention is made of the shoretrooper’s E-22 or the unnamed carbine blaster wielded by death troopers. Fingers crossed that those weapons might make it into the game as free DLC!
Amazon also confirms the pack will include one unnamed Star Cards and two unnamed power-ups. While it’s a shame we won’t be seeing multiple new Star Cards, this will be the first time we’ve gotten a new power-up since the Outer Rim update in March introduced the Disruptor Rifle.
Currently, we don’t know if the new power-ups will be exclusive to the expansion; the Disruptor Rifle is available to pick up on both DLC and vanilla maps. However, if the new power-ups are inspired by the movie, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them stay exclusive to the Rogue One: Scarif’s maps.
Finally, the listing only notes the U-Wing as the lone new vehicle. No mention of the TIE Striker is made, which doesn’t necessarily mean that ship isn’t included. It’s worth mentioning that the Striker is in the key art, but it’s still certainly curious that the Amazon listing doesn’t include the ship.
