Producer says making Rogue One: Scarif for Battlefront was “very difficult”
In an interview with StarWars.com, Lucasfilm games executive producer Matt Fillbrandt revealed a bit of information about what went into making Battlefront’s Rogue One: Scarif expansion.
Nothing too surprising came out of the article; however, Fillbrandt did note that creating the game alongside the movie proved tricky.
“Making a game based on film content that is still in development is a very difficult undertaking,” he said. “Especially when you are coming out ahead of the film and want to make sure that you get as many details as possible accurate.”
The expansion was also in development while visual effects studio Industrial Light and Magic was working on the Scarif battle scenes for the movie.
“We were also very lucky to get time with the ILM team that was working on the Scarif battle sequences in parallel with our development,” Fillbrandt said. “We were able to see early layouts for how the location on Scarif was going to be shot out, so we could be as accurate as possible without contradicting anything.”
ILM was also helpful in getting the U-Wing just right:
“The first place you can get in the cockpit and fire the door gun of a U-Wing is in the Battlefront Rogue One expansion,” Fillbrandt said. “We learned most of what we know about how it would handle in talking to ILM about how it was planning to be used it in the film. Lots of details about what the ship could do with the wings in the forward “U” position, swept backward, weaponry. It’s a very maneuverable ship.”
Ultimately, the team working on the expansion is happy with the project’s outcome.
“We are very excited to bring the Battlefront Rogue One expansion to our fans,” Fillbrandt said. “Giving them the opportunity to play with new vehicles, characters, and weapons on maps built around a new Star Wars planet is fun, but it’s extra special because they can get their hands on it and play with it before the film is released.”
