Weekly Wrap-Up: Battlefront 2 single-player, Rogue One movie & more!
The biggest news this week was of course, that Rogue One: A Star Wars’ story arrival to theaters.
According to some estimates, the film will haul a domestic box office total of $140 million in its opening weekend. Internationally, the film could grab upwards of $300 million by Monday. By comparison, The Force Awakens drew $248 million domestically and $529 million internationally. Still, it’s not a shabby effort from Rogue One!
Despite the latest Star Wars film overshadowing basically everything else this week, here’s what went on in the Star Wars gaming world:
1. Bigger single-player offering set for Battlefront 2
Perhaps one of the bigger critiques for the 2015 Battlefront is that it went rather light on single-player. However, that looks like it might change for Battlefront 2. In a podcast with Channel 33, EA’s General Manager of Star Wars, Justin McCully, teased that the dev team working on the sequel “has been very focused on delivering that single-player element.”
McCully also confirmed a holiday 2017 release for the game, a slightly more specific release window over the previously implied late-2017.
2. The Rogue One movie borrowed assets from Battlefront
In an interview with Wired, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed that Rogue One borrowed assets from Battlefront. Something like this is really quite incredible to hear—and perhaps proof that the video game world is edging ever-closer to the realm of movie-level special effects.
3. The original X-Wing game is getting a fan-remake
Crafted by dedicated fans, an HD-level mod titled XWVM is being worked on for the 1993 video game X-Wing. This mod will bring with it high-detail models for vehicles like TIE Fighters and X-Wings. Based on early gameplay footage, it looks pretty sharp so far!
4. The saga of Lando’s Power Blast in Battlefront continues
Lando’s Power Blast glitch makes the character almost unplayable in Battlefront. Unfortunately, it was recently revealed that it will require a full client-side patch to be fixed. Additionally, no date is set yet for this client-side patch, which will also bring with it some balancing tweaks.
5. Cassian Andor now out for Galaxy of Heroes
The Rebellion’s Cassian Andor is now available to add to your squad in Galaxy of Heroes. A tournament will start on December 21 to help players unlock the Rogue One character.
