New mod brings a little of EA’s Battlefront to Battlefront II

If you’ve been wanting some of EA’s Battlefront mechanics in the 2005 Battlefront II, you’re in luck.

GCW-1035, a mod constructed by Moddb user Delta-1035 (with the help of a number of others), takes several cues from EA’s 2015 Battlefront.

Besides adding several heroes from EA’s game, like Nien Nunb and Bossk, the mod also introduces a number of weapons, skins, items and the overheat mechanic from the 2015 version. The heroes’ abilities are also inspired by EA’s Battlefront; for instance, Han has his Lucky Shot, while Dengar has his Hurricane Strike.

The mod affects Instant Action’s Conquest mode for the Galactic Civil War. It also works with the Galactic Civil War portion of the campaign. The Clone Wars portions of the game don’t see tweaks.

I’ve played it a bit and it’s certainly an impressive mod. I definitely enjoy seeing weapons like the TL-50 or the SE-14C make appearances similar to their EA Battlefront counterparts (there’s even a DLT-19x that overheats after one shot!). The squad shield and deployable blaster cannons are cool touches as well.

Occasionally there can be a fair bit of laser fire spam, which is overwhelming at times. However, it’s possible it’s an issue with how the AI works with the overheat mechanics and, overall, doesn’t detract too much from the mod’s goal.

You can try out the mod for yourself by downloading it via Moddb.
