Battlefront X-Wing VR devs to give a BAFTA Crew Games Masterclass

Battlefront X-Wing VR Mission promo shot.

Some of those that worked on the PlayStation VR-exclusive Battlefront X-Wing VR Mission will be in London next week to discuss their project’s development at a BAFTA Crew Games Masterclass.

The event will be held on Monday, March 6 at 7 p.m. UTC at Princess Anne Theatre, BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly, London.

Those from Criterion Games that are speaking are: Pete Lake (Producer & Lucasfilm Partner), Jeff Seamster (Audio Director), James Svensson (Producer), Mark Bridges (Lead Designer) and Janine Harouni (Voice actor – Red Four).

The event’s description reads:

Criterion games [sic] has a heritage of making fast, spectacular vehicle and action games, including Burnout, Black and recent Need for Speed titles. The speakers between them have over 45 years of game development experience. As well as their time at Criterion, the speakers have worked on a range of acclaimed games, including Bioshock Infinite, Battlefield One and the Sims. With the X-wing VR Mission, Criterion set out to create the fullest expression of what a VR game can be, with characterful, dramatic story, great game-feel and explosive action.

Tickets (which can be booked on this page) will run for £7 for the general public and £5 for students.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to dig up whether or not the talk will be archived online afterward. For those of us not in the London area, it would be interesting to hear, but video results of the Google search for “bafta crew games masterclass” seem spotty at best. However, I’ll be keeping an eye out just in case!

Criterion worked on the X-Wing VR Mission that arrived free to Battlefront last December for PSVR users. They also helped craft the speeder bike mission that was part of the game since launch.

The studio will also assist DICE and Motive on the upcoming Battlefront sequel, but their exact role is currently unknown. Personally, I’d expect they’ll be working on a VR component, but that’s just speculation for now.
