EA will “have a lot to share” for Battlefront II at Star Wars Celebration

We are a little more than 10 days away from the reveal for EA’s Battlefront II at Star Wars Celebration.

Besides the promise of a reveal trailer for the game on April 15, it looks like EA may have a bit more up its sleeve. Writing on a forum thread, the game’s community manager Mathew Everett hinted that Celebration should be an exciting event for Battlefront fans.

“I am honestly looking forward to the overall reactions,” he wrote. “It’s super easy to speculate currently and wouldn’t expect anything less at this point, but we have a lot to share and Celebration is 10 days away and the reveal just 12 days.”

Everett also chimed in on the question of if Clone Wars/Prequel Trilogy content will make its way into Battlefront II, noting that pretty much anything is up in the air right now.

“Our team has revealed multiple eras, a bigger game and the title,” he wrote in response to someone asking about Clone Wars. “The only other bit of info out is that a trailer will be revealed at Star Wars Celebration on April 15th. All other confirmed and unconfirmed statements are a bunch of hog wash, fake rumors, or crazy speculation.”

Everett also jokingly “teased” the contents of the trailer and basically confirmed that EA’s playing it close to the vest right now:

“The trailer will have characters in it, it will take place in the Star Wars universe and will most likely have some opening and end slates. ;)

Finally, Everett bought up important note, mentioning how EA has to work in partnership with Lucasfilm and Disney.

“[…] Lucas[film] and Disney approve and deny every single thing we can do within our games,” he wrote. “They are pretty amazing partners, but the vision is shared and we work within the reasonable guidelines.”

This is something I think is important to remember. It seems that both Lucasfilm and Disney get the final say when it comes to EA’s Battlefront games (as well as their future Star Wars titles). I assume that while this does have its advantages, it can be difficult at times for developers working on the game.

Additionally, not only is EA working with Lucasfilm and Disney, but also with the development studios DICE, Motive Studios and Criterion Games. That means that there are a lot of processes for decisions to go through, which isn’t too surprising for something as big as the Star Wars brand. Of course, that doesn’t mean a good product can’t be produced; it just means that there’s a unique challenge facing the teams working on Battlefront II.

EA recently confirmed that a reveal trailer for Battlefront II will happen on April 15 at 2:30 p.m. ET / 11:30 a.m. PT. The trailer will arrive during “The Galaxywide Premiere of Star Wars Battlefront II” at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, Florida. Those that can’t make the event in-person will be able to watch it online.
