Let’s breakdown EA’s leaked Battlefront II teaser trailer
While Battlefront II does have the promise of a full trailer this Saturday, there still is that leaked trailer from the other day.
As this was our first glimpse of the game, I’ve gone ahead and done a quick breakdown. If you’re wanting to watch a video breakdown, Elliot from BattlefrontUpdates did one earlier.
Without further ado, here we go!
The opening shot is of an Imperial Raider-class corvette. This ship helps support TIE Fighters according to its Wookiepedia page. It made its first Star Wars appearance in the non-canon X-Wing Miniatures game, but was recently-canonized in the Thrawn novel.
While the opening shot is going on a women says, “I still remember my last orders…”
Then it cuts to a group of Imperial TIE Pilots on Endor watching the second Death Star explode. The droid floating next to the TIE Pilot on top the AT-ST appears to be an ID9 Seeker Droid from the Rebels TV show.
We then see a woman TIE pilot as she watches the Death Star explode. This women is probably the one from the voice-over and it seems like she might be the main protagonist for the game’s campaign.
I’ve heard theories that this women is Captain Phasma. However, the voice-over doesn’t sound anything like Phasma and this character doesn’t really look similar to Gwendoline Christie, who plays Phasma in the films.
Next comes a TIE Fighter flying through wreckage above a planet. It’s not immediately clear where this is. However—considering the context—it could be Endor and the wreckage of the second Death Star’s explosion.
The camera pans to follow the TIE and you see more wreckage and a broken Star Destroyer. Considering the amount of wreckage, I’m definitely thinking this is the Death Star. The women continues her line with: “… the day the real war began.”
Next comes a TIE pilot riding in an Imperial Raider though hyperspace. This cut also includes the text, “The untold soldier’s story” which is likely a reference to the campaign and the woman TIE pilot.
It then cuts to a space battle. You can make out a Y-Wing, although it’s not clear if it’s pilotable or not. There’s also a different planet in this scene. I’ve heard it thrown around that this planet is Coruscant or Tatooine. However, I’m not sold on either of those theories just yet.
There’s then (presumbly) another space battle. The lighting makes me think this is above Scarif, but the planet below isn’t clearly shown.
Next is a group of TIE fighters leaving Starkiller Base, confirming the existence of the sequel trilogy in Battlefront II.
We then get a shot of some urban combat with a red-leafed tree. This looks like an entirely new environment for Battlefront. You can make out Imperial flags, so this is likely some sort of Imperial installation. Possible planets include Coruscant or Mandalore.
After this comes a pair of TIEs zooming after the Millennium Falcon over water on what seems like Takodana. It’s interesting to note that the TIEs are of the Imperial variety and not the First Order. This could indicate that locations are not bound by era, but that’s just me speculating.
We then see a snowtrooper on what is likely Hoth. Something to point out is that they are using a jetpack that looks similar to the one from EA’s first Battlefront. You can also make out several Rebels riding tauntauns in the background.
Next we get to see a Rebel actually run over the snowtrooper with his tauntaun. I definitely can’t wait to do that when the game releases!
After the trailer proclaims that multiplayer will be fought “across all eras”, we see Darth Maul in what is likely the power generator facility on Naboo. It’s really quite cool to see that Maul will be making an appearance in this Battlefront II—I always enjoyed playing as him in the first Battlefront II.
After we see Maul, the camera cuts to Yoda. I won’t rule out Yaddle just yet, but these are probably the hands of Yoda 🙂
After this comes a shot of several First Order stormtroopers getting blown up and Rey running past them. Likely on the surface of Takodana.
The final shot is of Kylo Ren. I’m uncertain what location he’s in here, but my guess is Starkiller Base.
There’s also the end card. Besides Rey, a TIE Pilot and Darth Maul, there is a planet looming overhead. It includes a space battle featuring Clone Wars-era ships. As the planet is blue in color, I’d figure that this is Kamino, but that’s just a wild guess.
