Inferno Squad, Battlefront II connection hinted at in latest tease
It seems that the upcoming Star Wars novel Inferno Squad will tie in with EA’s Battlefront II.
This connection was hinted at in a recent tweet from the official EA Star Wars account:

Besides the “fire ignites” tease, the Aurebesh text in the video reads, “Inferno Squad“. In all likelihood, this indicates that the game’s campaign shares a connection with the elite Imperial soldiers called “Inferno Squad” that will feature in a novel of the same name.
The EA Star Wars account previously tweeted out two other Aurebesh teases: “War Empire” and “Strength Order“.
The Inferno Squad novel was announced in February. Written by Christie Golden—who penned the Star Wars novel Dark Disciple—the sequel book to Rogue One and A New Hope is due to release July 25, 2017. Its description reads:
The Rebellion may have heroes like Jyn Erso and Luke Skywalker. But the Empire has Inferno Squad.
After the humiliating theft of the Death Star plans and the resulting destruction of the battle station, the Empire is on the defensive. In response to this stunning defeat, the Imperial Navy has authorized the formation of an elite team of soldiers, known as Inferno Squad. Their mission: infiltrate and eliminate the remnants of Saw Gerrera’s Partisans. Following the death of their leader, the Partisans have carried on his extremist legacy, determined to thwart the Empire — no matter what the cost. Now, Inferno Squad must prove their status as the best of the best and take down the Partisans from within. But as the danger intensifies and the threat of discovery grows, how far will Inferno Squad go to ensure the safety of the Empire?
In the leaked teaser trailer for Battlefront II, a group of TIE pilots were shown off. Later on, the pilots’ insignia was revealed on the official Battlefront II website. Some speculated that they were connected to Inferno Squad. The book was previously grouped with Battlefront II by Jedi Bibliothek in an Amazon listing right after it was announced. The recent tease potentially confirms that speculation is correct.
I find it interesting that the novel will take place right around Rogue One and A New Hope. Based on the voice-over in the leaked Battlefront II trailer, the game’s campaign seems to be set right after the destruction of the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi. However, the exact time-frame for Battlefront II’s campaign isn’t fully clear just yet.
I’ll also be very curious to see if there’ll be any characters from the novel in the game. Considering the recent hints about Battlefront II, that feels likely—but it’s far from confirmed right now.
Hopefully we’ll find out more about Inferno Squad tomorrow! The full Battlefront II reveal trailer will drop during the game’s worldwide reveal tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. PT/2:30 p.m. ET.
