Troopers to match each era’s aesthetics for maps in EA’s Battlefront II
A recent post by EA shed a few details on the upcoming Battlefront II, including how troopers will work on the era-specific maps.
You can read the post, titled “4 Things You Wanted to Know After the Star Wars Battlefront II Trailer”, via the official Battlefront II website. I’ve outlined the several noteworthy points below:
The biggest bit indicates that infantry will be restricted by era on each map. Per the post: “Troopers will match the aesthetic of their respective time period, with Battle Droids in Theed, snowtroopers on Hoth, etc.”
I take this to read that maps will be tied to specific eras, meaning maps won’t see cross-era support (for example, First Order stormtroopers on Theed). It also seems to rule out factions from different eras facing off, such as the Resistance taking on the Separatists. Personally, I’m happy with this design choice.
Going off of this, the post further notes: “For those of you who want to live out dream battles between Star Wars’ most iconic characters, some modes will support era-crossover play for Heroes, allowing you to set matchups between familiar faces from different time periods. Want to pit Yoda against Kylo Ren? You can do that.”
What isn’t clear here is if there will be certain modes that restrict heroes to certain eras, as it reads “some modes”. This could mean that only the smaller hero modes (like a Heroes vs. Villains-type mode) support cross-era hero match-ups. However, it could also indicate that larger modes (i.e., something similar to Walker Assault) may also support cross-era heroes. We’ll just have to wait until later to be 100-percent sure. It’s also worth noting that cross-era hero combat had been previously mentioned in passing last week.
And when will we have to wait? It looks like the next big date on the Battlefront II hype calendar is unsurprisingly EA PLAY in June.
In a section discussing weapon mods and the game’s new class system, the post mentions that “[a]t EA PLAY we’ll be digging more into” the progression/multiplayer system. Previously, EA had confirmed that they’ll share more about space battles at EA PLAY.
EA PLAY will run from June 10 to the 12. There will also be a presentation at Noon PT on June 10 focusing on EA’s “biggest games of the year ahead.” While EA hasn’t confirmed Battlefront II for the presentation, I reckon we’ll certainly hear more about the game during that time. The presentation will be held live at EA PLAY in Hollywood, California, but will also be broadcast live online.
Besides those tidbits, the post merely covers various topics that have already been touched on, including the game’s campaign and deeper progression system. However, if you want to check it out, head on over to the Battlefront II website.
Battlefront II is due out worldwide on November 17. To stay up-to-date on the game’s progress, follow SWGO on Twitter or Facebook.
