Battlefront drew millions of players over three-month span
Despite past qualms over its playerbase, EA’s Battlefront seems to be doing just fine.
The 2015 title logged over 6.6 million unique users between April and June this year, according to an infographic released yesterday by EA.
“More broadly thinking about the Star Wars franchise, again, this is a long-term play for us,” said EA CEO Andrew Wilson in the company’s Earning Call on Tuesday. “We’re very excited. We were overjoyed with the performance of Star Wars Battlefront. We’re overjoyed with the 6.6 million players that played the game through Q1. We are continuing to support that.”
“As each movie comes out over the time of our relationship, we expect that the Star Wars community will continue to grow,” Wilson added. “[A]nd we will be doing more best to align […] what we’re doing around the Star Wars universe with what is more broadly happening with Star Wars pop culture. And we think that’s a win as we continue to deliver for the fans long-term.”
While 6.6 million certainly is a hefty number, let’s put it in perspective.
This number pertains specifically to unique users rather than concurrent users. This means that if a player logged into the Battlefront servers at least once between April and June, they got counted in that tally. Regardless, 6.6 million unique users is still a resounding total.
In related Star Wars news, EA also revealed that players spent an average of 2.5 hours per day playing the mobile game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes.
