SWGO’s Top 5 Highlights for the Week of September 23

This week was all about the Death Star.

Battlefront’s third expansion arrived on Tuesday, bringing with it a new mode, space battles and a couple of new heroes.

Also, as a reminder, there is a double score event going on in Battlefront from now until Sunday.

Here’s how SWGO ranked the top five Star Wars gaming news highlights:

1. The Death Star released in Battlefront for Season Pass holders

Season Pass holders got access to the Death Star expansion this week. It arrived with six Hutt Contracts, Battle Station, five new maps and multiple playable heroes (including Chewbacca, Bossk and R2-D2). You can check out a summary of the new Hutt Contracts, plus an article detailing my experiences and thoughts on them. The max level cap also increased to 90 and four new unlockable skins arrived, too!

The update also came with a patch and a number of new features.

2. The trait system in Battlefront got an overhaul

All the traits in Battlefront got reworked in the latest update. First, traits are equippable by Star Card hand. This means you can have two traits available each match.

Every trait also was tweaked slightly in an effort to provide more balanced gameplay. For all traits, DICE removed the level 3 extra bonus. However, you will receive a 50% chance of earning a power-up with each kill once you reach level 3 regardless of trait (this was previously exclusive to the Bounty Hunter trait). Some traits also saw changes to their base function.

3. Data miner found a new hero mode in Battlefront

A new mode was uncovered by data miner Unispired Zebra. Titled “Hero Blast”, this mode looks to be apparently 6-versus-6. Not much else is known about it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was some sort of Season Pass mode that centers around heroes.

It’s probably what hero designer Guillaume Mroz teased last week.

4. The Death Star playlist will be getting more modes

The lead designer for Battlefront, Dennis Brannvall teased on Wednesday that the playlist for the Death Star expansion will get more modes. With only Battle Station, Blast and Fighter Squadron in the Death Star’s rotation, players have been voicing their desire to see more infantry-based modes. I’d expect we’ll see modes like Droid Run and Cargo make an appearance in the rotation soon.

5. Star Wars: Uprising was removed from app stores

On Thursday, studio Kabam announced that they will be shutting down servers for their mobile game, Star Wars: Uprising. An RPG for iOS and Android, Uprising will officially close shop on November 17 after just over a year on the market. Kabam has already removed the game from app stores.
