Mobile game Star Wars Commander to get Rogue One content!
The mobile game Star Wars Commander will be receiving some new Rogue One items.
The latest Star Wars Show episode revealed Shoretroopers, Rebel Commandos, Gigoran Fighter and AT-ACTs are coming to the strategy game in its latest update.
The Star Wars Show host Andi Gutierrez noted that the update arrives tomorrow (Thursday); however, a user on Reddit posted that the update is already live on iOS. My Android device has also updated to version 4.4.0.
The full patch notes for the update read:
● This release features content inspired by Rogue One: A Star Wars™ Story!● Build an Armory to activate Equipment that improves unit and structure combat stats.● Collect Data Fragments from Supply Crates to unlock and upgrade Equipment.● Same-Faction Squad Wars – Opt in to battle same faction squads in Squad Wars.● Optimizations and improvements
The Shoretrooper, Rebel Commando and Gigoran Fighter can be seen below:
The AT-ACT, which is a larger variant of the AT-AT built to carry extra cargo, is shown in action below:
The new Armory feature mentioned in the patch notes above can be read more in-depth via this developer blog post. The Armory allows players to customize character outfits into planet-dependent looks.
Personally, I’m curious to see how much of what’s shown above makes it into Battlefront’s Rogue One expansion this December. Hopefully we’ll get the Shoretrooper and perhaps the AT-ACT will swap out for AT-ATs in a Walker Assault map on Scarif. The Shoretrooper looks especially awesome in real life.
The Rebel Commando skins might also be a preview for how default Rebels will look on Scarif. However, the look shown off in Commander definitely reads more generic soldier than what’s been shown off in Rogue One trailers so far.
The Commandos also seem to be sport a carbine variant of the DH-17 blaster pistol. This weapon has been shown off in various trailers, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a Rogue One DLC-exclusive weapon.
I’m also rather dubious we’ll see the Gigoran as a playable skin in Battlefront. As shown below, it’s a rather furry creature and DICE has stated they had difficulties rendering Chewbacca’s hair. Still, I wouldn’t say no to seeing this cuddly-looking beast be playable in Battlefront.
What do you think of the new items? Will they be making an appearance in Battlefront? Share your thoughts in the comments, or give SWGO a shout on Twitter or Facebook.
