Battlefront’s Rogue One DLC release date December 6; plus dev teases map design

Death Troopers on Scarif in Rogue One.

Thanks to a Redditor and the physical Ultimate Edition of Battlefront, we now know that the Rogue One: Scarif expansion will arrive December 6.

Tuesday, December 6 is the date Season Pass holders will get the DLC. Non-season pass holders who purchase the DLC individually will likely receive it December 20. However, non-Season Pass holders will still benefit as the game should be getting a much-need patch alongside the DLC on December 6.

This news was revealed on Reddit today by u/Stalemate9. This user purchased a physical copy of the “new” Ultimate Edition, which includes the DLC’s release date:

Rogue One DLC release date is set for December 6.

This date winds up being 10 days ahead of the movie, which is slated to arrive in US theaters on December 16. It also means that the PSVR-exclusive Rogue One X-Wing VR Mission will also likely arrive December 6.

It also lines up with some speculation I made regarding a tweet by Battlefront level artist Daniel Cambrand. Last Friday, Cambrand tweeted out that he had completed his work on the DLC. Based on when he had completed other DLCs, December 6 lined up perfectly.

No word yet on trailer or other reveal dates, but I would have to assume they’ll be coming shortly.

Meanwhile, Cambrand recently teased map design for the DLC:

Of course, it’s in his best interests to hype up the expansion before it drops. However, it’s still promising to hear him call it his favorite.

DICE has yet to disappoint me with the level design in Battlefront, so I’m hopeful he’s right. I’m also looking forward to seeing how EA’s Frostbite engine renders the water of tropical Scarif!

Finally, for those that haven’t heard, Battlefront is in the midst of a 4X score and free DLC trial weekend. Both events run through Sunday, November 20 and are a part of Battlefront’s anniversary celebrations.
