Star Wars MOBA inbound with Force Arena? Definitely seems that way

A new mobile title is on its way for Star Wars fans.

Just announced today, an upcoming PvP game titled “Star Wars: Force Arena” is available for pre-registration right now.

The game is a joint-effort between Lucasfilm and Netmarble, a developer known for producing Marvel: Future Fight.

Force Arena seems like it will fill a MOBA-void in the Star Wars universe; the game is set to offer “real-time 1v1 or 2v2 PvP arena battles.” According to VentureBeat, Force Arena includes 65 characters, from Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader to Ezra Bridger from the Rebels TV show. Other characters I’ve noticed include Princess Leia, Emperor Palpatine, Han Solo and Chewbacca.

You’ll be able to collect and upgrade characters while also be able to earn rewards, special characters and bonus items by participating in events.

Force Arena is set to release on both Google Play and Apple’s App Store. It will be free-to-play. Those that pre-register will earn several bonus awards depending on the number of pre-registrations the game gets.

For those unaware, MOBA stands for “multiplayer online battle arena”. Popular games in the genre include League of Legends and DOTA 2. Considering that the game literally has “arena” in the title and utilizes the classic top-down perspective, it seems safe to call Force Arena a “MOBA”.

While I’m personally not a huge MOBA fan—and a mobile MOBA seems a little dubious—I’ll definitely be following this title as it gets closer to release. I do hope it does well and makes for a fun and engaging game!
