A mod for Battlefront II titled “Battlefront III Legacy” will go into an open beta soon.

The full mod plans to include content from both the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War. It also will contain some game modes from the latest Battlefront, like Turning Point, Supremacy and Fighter Squadron. Space to Ground Combat is also planned.

The mod further features a rebuilt Coruscant map from Battlefront III.

Late last week, the mod’s creators announced that a playable beta will be available soon. From the mod’s ModDB page:

The beta will include two (or maybe three) playable game-modes, the full map to explore, Clone Wars only as well as only two, playable heroes/villains (at all).
You will also be forced to play as only 4 of the 6 available classes.
Also the available vehicles on this map will be reduced then to prevent crashes/ or sudden freezes.

The official release date is not yet set for the beta. However, the creators noted that “the beta will come within a short period of time as soon as some bugs are fixed and additional content has been added.”

A full version of Battlefront II for PC is required to play the beta (disk and Steam copies will both work). Gameranger, Tunngle or BattleSpy are required if you want to play the online-compatible part of the beta. The beta will take up an estimated 2 GB of space on your hard drive, although the total may change before release.

Official Patch 1.1 and the Unofficial Patch 1.3 are both recommended, as is at least 1.4 GB of RAM.

The mod also does not have a final release date for the full version.

If you’re curious about the mod, I definitely recommend checking out the open beta announcement video, which also features a new HUD:

This definitely sounds cool! I’ll be checking it out once the beta drops, and then again should it get a full release. It’s really quite awesome seeing a game that’s over 10-years-old continue to receive mod support.

I’m also excited to see it carry over some modes from EA’s Battlefront. For me, the game modes in the 2015 edition of Battlefront are some the game’s high points.

Also, if you ever come across any other mods for Star Wars games, let me know! I’m always eager to find more community-created content.
